Cassie Steele - How Much For Happy
by thedonoman
Cassie Steele, well known for her role as "Manny" on Degrassi: TNG, is set to release her first CD March 15th, 2005. "How Much For Happy", 12 songs of "classic driving guitar, and strong dynamic melodies" features lyrics written by Cassie herself. The albums music being released through Rob "N" Steal Productions was written by Eddie McDonald and Danny Ricardo. The album which doesn't aim to be a contender on the top of the charts will most likely gain a small underground fanbase within the online Degrassi community.
Fans will be especially surprised by the lyrics of Cassie's songs, as they are a far cry from the suggestive, yet sweet Manny Santos that fans have gotten to know over the past few seasons. Take for example an excerpt from the 5th track on the album "Drink Me Dry", a song that appears to be speaking about drug usage.
Candy coated death
Lined with crystal meth
How it takes my breath away
Its like suicide
To look into your eyes
That’s where my secrets lay to die
Another example of the more adult Cassie is found in the final song on the album, titled "Rock Your Bones."
She called and asked honey where could he be?
So sorry girl but your man is with me
I rocked his bones
He rocked my bones
He was alone
So I rocked him
Cassie is a teenage girl growing up in the spotlight and her lyrics reflect that she's much more mature than most 15 year olds. She'd rather not have people think that she's a pretty princess, but a punk rock chick instead. This album speaks leaps and bounds about the persona she is trying to get across. And while this new personality is alluring, at some points her website seems to be pushing the image a little too hard. Take for example, a feature in her websites Bio Section.
Did you know Cassie...
---wears black nail polish, but it has to be chipped - and red for short nails
---likes grungy glamour-ripped jeans, leather jackets, with a suit coat under the jacket, sparkling ruby red slippers
---prefers red undergarments-must match
And the most ambiguous, but implicitly provocative quote from Cassie is this one:
---"It's no fun when your legal"
It's definite that her site is trying to appeal to the 13 boy sitting in his room dreaming about Cassie. The photo gallery is another stark example of that, featuring a slew of seductive pics. In any event, as long as her songs are good the fans will listen.
To celebrate the release of the album, she will be holding a huge bash at the Mod Club in Toronto on March 15th. The upcoming months will be busy for Cassie as her site explains plans of a small venue Canadian tour. It also appears that she may embark on a U.S. tour later this year.
