Degrassi: The Next Generation

Degrassi: Generations Book Review

by cerebral assassin

When I first started flipping through the pages of Degrassi Generations I thought it was going to be a pretty cool book. The full color almost 200 page paperback filled with behind the scenes pictures, cast bios, and episode descriptions looked to be one of the coolest homage collections a Degrassi fan could own. Upon further inspection and actually reading it I found out the book was even better than I thought. The book is actually written in kind of a scrap book format with full color pictures and accompanying stories and text. The stories and anecdotes in the book range from on set mishaps and behind the scenes info to actual real life stories from the actors, cast, and crew of Degrassi Jr. High, Degrassi High, and Degrassi: The Next Generation. You not only get stories like how Playing With Time Productions and The Kids Of Degrassi Street first started, but stories like why Daniel Clark (Sean) left the show, in his own words.

The book actually contains a huge amount of stories, anecdotes, and just little tidbits of Degrassi Trivia. Most of the stories are quite entertaining and a good read. From Pat Mastronianni’s (Joey) take on coming back to Degrassi after 10 years, and Stefan Brogen’s (Snake) story about getting to use the F-Word on prime time television, to Cassie Steele’s take on her character Manny’s boyfriend stealing ways; the stories are extremely entertaining from start to end. The book literally contains hundreds of entertaining tales ranging from the actors talking about their futures to how the music was written and how the scripts are drafted and edited to even how Emma got her name originally in Degrassi Jr. High. These stories are the books best feature by far.

If that isn’t enough the part of the book that first caught my eye and made me think I was going to enjoy it really rounds out the collection. It contains character bios for not only every Degrassi TNG character with pictures from Emma to Kendra to Darcy to even Peter as well as the adult characters, but full episode descriptions for every episode of The Kids of Degrassi Street, Degrassi Jr. High, and Degrassi: The Next Generation (through season 4) accompanied by full color pictures from each episode. To add to that there are than and now bios of every Degrassi Jr. High and Degrassi High actor, not only telling what they are doing now and other little trivia bits about the actor, but also a description of their character and accompanying pictures of them than and now. Other features in the book include a studio and back lot tour, features about the Degrassi website, a whole article on how the producers made the things that make up the Degrassi World from Swamp Sex Robots to Kid Elrick, Guest Star Features, and full color collages of behind the scenes pictures from all 25 years of Degrassi history. And that’s only a  little taste of what’s crammed in it, there is actually so much cool stuff in this book I can’t even mention it all in this review.

If you can’t tell by now I highly recommend this book to any Degrassi fan out there. If you are reading this and haven’t already ordered the book, what are you waiting for?
