Degrassi: The Next Generation may soon feature the next generation of Canadian superstar. Paulina Gretzky, the 16-year-old daughter of Wayne Gretzky and Janet Jones, "has expressed interest" in joining the series, according to a producer.

Nichole Hamilton confirmed yesterday that there have been discussions about Gretzky joining the high-school drama.

The oldest of Gretzky's five children, Paulina sang the national anthem at last year's Heritage outdoor hockey game in Edmonton and has sung before other hockey games and prize fights. Her mother acted in several films -- most memorably in The Flamingo Kid.

There is one hurdle: Based in L.A. and Phoenix, the Gretzky's live far from Toronto, where Degrassi is shot. Maybe she could camp out at Gretzky's restaurant. Production begins next month on a fifth season.
