3/21/2006 - Degrassi: The Next Generation Spin-off???
The Toronto Star recently ran an article covering the 100th episode of Degrassi: TNG. Within the article, they mention many of the recent happenings in the Degrassi world, such as a compilation cd, the webisodes and the movie slated to be directed by Kevin Smith. Suprisingly however, the article mentions that Executive Producer Linda Schuyler is considering the possibility of a spin-off series, involving the graduated older cast. This is news to us!
Of course, if this is in fact true, the series (which is still VERY much in the "idea phase") would likely not see television sets any time soon. In order to be on the Fall '06 lineup, an application for Canadian Television funding would have to have already been submitted, which we most likely would have caught word on before now. Also, with the feature movie, season 6 of TNG and possibly season 3 of Instant Star going into production this summer, Epitome would have an incredibly hard time putting together another entire series in time for this year. If it were to be picked up it most likely would not be until the Fall of '07, and would either run in conjunction with season 7 of TNG (if there is one), or perhaps may replace it. Of course, this is all speculation! We'll keep you posted.
